Cerilliant Introduces New Certified Spiking Solutions® of "Legal High" Drugs
ROUND ROCK, TEXAS – August 16, 2010 – Cerilliant Corporation introduces six new Certified Spiking Solutions® of the following "legal high" drugs: JWH-018 and HU-210 (Spice Cannabinoids), Mephedrone HCl, Mephedrone-D3 HCl, Methylone HCl, and Ethylone HCl.
JWH-018 and HU-210 are synthetic cannabinoids found in several versions of the herbal mixture "Spice (Silver, Gold and Diamond)" also known as K2, Genie, and Fake Weed. Considerably more potent than similar amounts of cannabis, these Spice cannabinoids cause psychoactive effects in users similar to those of ?9-THC. HU-210 is currently listed as a Schedule I controlled substance by the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), and several states have passed legislative action restricting the sale or possession of JWH-018 including Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, North Dakota, and Tennessee. Despite the controlled or restricted status of individual Spice cannabinoids, the herbal Spice mixtures are not currently controlled in several countries including the US, Canada, New Zealand, and Brazil. In addition to the current regulatory limitations, spice cannabinoids also present significant analytical challenges for detection by typical ?9-THC testing assays.
Mephedrone (street names MCAT, meph, drone, meow meow, or miaow miaow), methylone (street names Explosion, Ease, or Arlone), and ethylone are synthetic stimulants of the amphetamine and cathinone classes. Significant abuse of mephedrone, also known as 4-methylmethcathinone, has been reported within the last year in the UK; Sweden; and Toronto, Canada with confiscation of the drug in states such as Oregon. Use of the designer drugs methylone and ethylone, also known as bk-MDMA and bk-MDEA, respectively, has been observed in the UK, Netherlands, Sweden, and New Zealand.
Cerilliant’s "legal high" drug reference standards are manufactured and certified to the highest industry standards including ISO Guide 34 and ISO/IEC 17025 and are suitable for a wide variety of quantitative or qualitative applications from control or calibrator preparation in forensic analysis or clinical toxicology testing to urine drug analysis and isotope dilution methods. These standards are classified as "certified reference materials" in accordance with ISO requirements. Cerilliant’s quality system also incorporates FDA’s cGMP and GLP guidelines as well as ISO 9001:2008 requirements making these standards suitable for any analytical application across international borders.
Cerilliant has received a DEA exemption for the new Snap-N-Spike® | Snap-N-Shoot® solution standard of HU-210 allowing laboratories to order the standard without DEA paperwork.
"People will always look for ways to circumvent the regulations by manufacturing products that create a "high" without the risk of litigation. As these compounds are identified and submitted to legislation for evaluation, the testing community looks to Cerilliant to provide Certified Spiking Solutions®. These certified reference standards enable them to accurately identify and monitor possible and persistent illicit use," states Mitzi Rettinger, Vice President, Cerilliant.
